Why Does Skin Sagging Occur?

The firmness and elasticity of the dermis are maintained by strong collagen and thinner elastin fibers. These fibers are synthesized by fibroblasts, cells that constantly renew the network of fibers, forming a sort of framework. After the age of 35, the regenerative processes slow down, the number of fibroblasts gradually decreases, the cells become less active and lose their properties, leading to a decline in muscle tone.

Another reason for sagging skin on the face and other parts of the body is the decrease in the concentration of glycosaminoglycans, particularly hyaluronic acid. The function of glycosaminoglycans is to retain a sufficient number of water molecules and gradually use them to moisturize tissues. With age, the number of these molecules decreases, leading to insufficient moisture, and the fibers lose their firmness, causing noticeable skin sagging.

A significant non-physiological reason that accelerates the appearance of sagging skin is excessive exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays. UV rays can rapidly destroy fibers, preventing them from regenerating. Photoaging is common among people who regularly tan without using protective creams or frequently visit tanning salons.

Other causes of sagging skin include:

  • Genetics
  • Hormonal issues
  • Living in a hot climate
  • Specific job conditions (outdoor work, high-temperature workshops and factories, night shifts)
  • Frequent travel to countries with different climatic zones
  • Improperly chosen skincare for the face and neck.

How to Get Rid of Sagging Skin?

While one cannot stop the aging process, it can be delayed with proper skincare, taking care of the body, and regular visits to a cosmetologist. Modern medical centers offer numerous hardware and injection procedures to help eliminate sagging skin on the neck and face and reduce wrinkles. For instance, at the LeoDerm clinic, patients can undergo treatments such as Morpheus 8 microneedling RF lifting, LightScan laser fractional resurfacing, contouring with Radiesse (diluted), and HArmonyCA with added exosomes.

Microneedling RF lifting is a procedure aimed at effective tightening and improving skin tone using the Morpheus 8 attachment. The device's microneedles penetrate deep layers of the dermis, heating the connective tissue to a safe temperature (42°C). Under the influence of heat, fibroblasts begin active division, synthesizing collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. As a result, the skin looks fresher, and sagging and laxity gradually decrease.

LightScan laser fractional resurfacing effectively eliminates early signs of skin aging and fine wrinkles. The procedure uses an innovative low-energy infrared laser that targets specific problem areas of the skin, triggering the natural regeneration process and stimulating fibroblasts. As a result, the skin becomes smoother and fresher. Significant advantages of fractional resurfacing include its painlessness and versatility (suitable for all areas and different skin types).

Contour plastic surgery with Radiesse (diluted) and HarmonyCa fillers is an effective non-invasive facelift using dermal fillers. The filler with calcium hydroxyapatite acts as a filler and stimulates the production of natural collagen. The effect of the procedure lasts for 12 months or more. Restoring a defined facial contour, lifting sagging areas, and eliminating sagging skin and wrinkles—calcium hydroxyapatite handles these tasks perfectly.

EXOXE EXOXE exosomes are an innovative method to restore youth, health, and beauty to the skin, providing tissue regeneration. They contain a large number of bioactive molecules to regulate the functions of various skin cells and support cells in a youthful and healthy state. They accelerate the proliferation and movement of fibroblasts in the skin, stimulating wound healing and skin regeneration.

In the fight against dullness of facial skin, the following procedures are effectively used: bio-revitalization (polynucleotides, amino acids, hyaluronic acid), IPL therapy with Lumecca, peels, microneedling RF lifting, and transdermal nourishment preparations. More information about these procedures can be found on the LeoDerm Medical Center website.

It's worth noting that therapeutic-cosmetic procedures for sagging and dull skin can be combined to achieve better results. The optimal combinations will be determined by the doctor after consultation, taking into account the specific characteristics of the patient's skin.
