It is worth remembering that dysbacteriosis of the vagina can occur as a concomitant pathology of more serious venereal diseases, therefore, when symptoms appear, it is definitely worthwhile to undergo an examination by a gynecologist.

Bacterial vaginosis is a female disease, it does not manifest itself in men, but they can be carriers of the infection.

Causes of bacterial vaginosis  for women

Factors provoking a violation of the microflora of the vagina, respectively, the appearance of the disease include:

  • decrease in the body's defenses;
  • violation of the intestinal microflora (in particular, the penetration of pathogenic microorganisms from the anus into the vagina, for example, Escherichia coli);
  • high level of stress;
  • long-term use of antibiotics or immunosuppressants;
  • taking hormonal drugs;
  • violation of the hormonal background, in particular, violation of the menstrual cycle;
  • pregnancy, as it also affects the level of hormones and the state of the microflora;
  • sexually transmitted infections;
  • frequent and uncontrolled douching, which not only washes out harmful microbes, but also beneficial microflora;
  • untimely removal of the intrauterine spiral (more than 5 years);
  • unprotected sex and frequent change of sexual partners;
  • inflammatory processes of the pelvic organs, present or experienced in the past.

The described factors provoke microflora disturbances, which under unfavorable conditions can cause the development of inflammatory diseases of the genital organs, postoperative infectious complications, and in pregnant women - the occurrence of premature birth and postpartum endometritis.

Bacterial vaginosis: symptoms and diagnosis

The main symptom of bacterial vaginosis is frequent, cream-like discharge of grayish-white or yellow color with a specific unpleasant smell of rotten fish. After intercourse, the smell may increase. In some cases, the appearance of discharge can be combined with burning and itching. However, about 50% of women have no visible signs of bacvaginosis.

Please note that atypical discharge from the vagina can be a sign of many venereal diseases and infections, so do not self-medicate and make an appointment with a gynecologist, where you can pass all the necessary tests.

Bacterial vaginosis is diagnosed with the help of a smear on the microflora.

What diseases can baquaginosis be associated with?

Bacterial vaginosis can be the basis or complication of almost any STD: HIV, gonorrhea, syphilis, trichomoniasis, chlamydia, etc.

The disease can develop against the background of inflammatory processes of the genitourinary system, such as adnexitis, vulvitis, colpitis, cervicitis, endometritis.

Bacterial vaginosis: treatment

How to treat bacterial vaginosis? If the cause of bacvaginosis is not an infection or an inflammatory process of the genitourinary system, the disease can disappear on its own, after the normal microflora of the vagina is restored. But, if the symptoms of bacterial vaginosis persist for a long time or recur after a course of therapy, the disease requires serious treatment and observations by a gynecologist.

In such cases, first of all, the pathology that provoked the development of bacvaginosis is treated, and only then - the restoration of the normal microflora of the vagina. The normalization of the microflora consists in the elimination of an excessive number of conditionally pathogenic bacteria.
