The most common causative agents of mycoplasmosis are:

  • Mycoplasma hominis.
  • Mycoplasma genitalium.

Like all sexually transmitted infections, mycoplasma provokes the development of cervicitis, vaginitis, prostatitis, pyelonephritis and other diseases of the genitourinary system.

Ways of transmission of mycoplasmosis

In most cases, mycoplasmosis (mycoplasma) is transmitted sexually from an infected partner, but household infection is also possible.

Symptoms of mycoplasmosis in women and its complications

Urogenital mycoplasmosis has no obvious symptoms, and this is the main difficulty in making a diagnosis. In more than 40% of cases, the disease proceeds latently, without showing any external signs. However, when the disease passes into an acute stage, the following symptoms of mycoplasmosis in women appear, which are characteristic of all STDs:

  • transparent discharge from the vagina of varying intensity;
  • itching and burning sensation during urination;
  • less often pain in the lower abdomen and during sexual intercourse (when the infection spreads through the genitourinary system).

The first signs of infection appear 3-5 weeks after infection. The intensity of the symptoms of mycoplasmosis manifests itself differently, as a rule, the clinical picture in men is much brighter, therefore, when signs of inflammation appear in a man, his sexual partner should also undergo an examination.

The following factors can complicate the clinical symptoms of the disease:

  • concomitant infection of any origin;
  • hormonal imbalance;
  • changes in the body's immune system.
  • Female infertility is also often provoked by an infection of the urogenital tract, the root cause of which is mycoplasma.

Diagnosis of mycoplasma in women

Since mycoplasmosis in women is a fairly common pathology, and its symptoms are often completely invisible, a preventive examination by a gynecologist should be performed at least once a year. Women with chronic diseases and inflammatory processes of the genitourinary system should pay special attention to their health.

Patients with pyelonephritis or kidney stones should be included in the risk group. Mandatory regular examination of patients with infertility is necessary. The polymerase chain reaction method is used to diagnose the infection.

Treatment of mycoplasmosis in women

Treatment of mycoplasma in women is aimed not only at eliminating the infection, but also at increasing the body's resistance, as well as protecting the microflora of the vagina and intestines, because the treatment of mycoplasmosis involves taking antibiotics. In order to avoid the occurrence of candidiasis, it is recommended to take antifungal drugs. In addition, quite often doctors prescribe a therapeutic diet that excludes fatty, fried, smoked food, smart drinks.

At the end of the course of mycoplasmosis treatment, a control examination is carried out. In case of recurrence, diagnosis is necessary to detect other STDs.

It is very important that all sexual partners of the patient undergo mycoplasma treatment. Drug therapy is prescribed for each individual.
