However, modern aesthetic medicine offers effective procedures that allow gentle correction of these wrinkles, restoring smoothness, tone, and a youthful, refined contour to the neck. The cosmetologists at the LeoDerm Clinic explain what causes these neck wrinkles and which treatments can help reduce them, restoring the skin’s beauty without overload or an “artificial” look.

What are Venus rings?

Venus rings are horizontal wrinkles or lines on the front surface of the neck, which can be either superficial or deeper. They form characteristic “ring-like” grooves that disrupt the smooth texture of the skin and visually add age.

Unlike facial expression lines, Venus rings on the neck are not related to active facial movements — they form within the subcutaneous tissues. Because of this, they cannot be eliminated with regular moisturizers or masks; instead, they require more targeted cosmetic procedures.

Causes of Venus Rings

The neck experiences daily strain, and its skin is constantly exposed to negative environmental factors. Over time, this affects the quality and texture of the skin. That’s why these rings can appear both in women aged 40+ and in very young women — sometimes even in adolescence.

Why do Venus rings appear? The reasons can vary, ranging from natural factors to lifestyle-related ones:

  • genetic predisposition — structural features of the skin and collagen fibers;
  • hyperactivity of the platysma muscle (the superficial neck muscle), which creates creases;
  • age-related loss of elasticity — decreased collagen and elastin production;
  • poor posture and constantly tilting the head downward;
  • skin dehydration — insufficient skincare and lack of water in the body;
  • sun exposure — UV radiation destroys collagen in the dermis, accelerating aging.

As a result, the skin of the neck loses density, becomes thinner, and the characteristic rings become more noticeable.

How to get rid of Venus rings?

One of the most effective ways to reduce Venus rings on the neck is blanching — a technique of superficial injection of hyaluronic fillers into the upper layers of the skin. This method involves filling the Venus rings and smoothing the skin’s texture without adding volume or causing swelling. Blanching is especially suitable for this area because the skin on the neck is thin and requires the gentlest, most precise filler placement.

The procedure consists of very superficial injections of microdoses of filler directly under the Venus ring. The product is placed at a shallow level — within the dermis — filling the grooves on the neck and smoothing them out. Linear or micro-papular injection techniques are used, ensuring even distribution of the filler within the wrinkle and achieving a natural result with no swelling or artificial effect. In addition, blanching helps to:

  • restore skin density on the neck;
  • improve hydration and elasticity;
  • even out the skin’s structure and reduce the visibility of the rings.

Which products are used for blanching?

To correct Venus rings, cosmetologists typically use fillers from the Belotero line because they integrate easily into the tissues and do not form lumps. When choosing the product, the doctor considers the depth and severity of the wrinkles.

  1. Belotero Soft is a very light and elastic hyaluronic acid–based filler. It is ideal for smoothing fine, superficial, and mild Venus rings and is mostly used for younger patients or as a preventive method to keep the wrinkles from deepening. It provides hydration and light skin smoothing.
  2. Belotero Balance has a higher density and a more pronounced supporting effect. It is used when deeper and more noticeable rings need correction. The procedure helps restore tissue density and smooth the texture while maintaining natural contours and the soft mobility of the neck.

Both products integrate well into the tissues and remain invisible even in thin skin.

When is blanching effective?

The procedure delivers excellent results when:

  • the Venus rings are mild or moderately pronounced;
  • the skin has lost moisture and density;
  • the patient wants a natural result that is not noticeable to others;
  • it is important to preserve the natural look and mobility of the neck.

After the procedure, the skin appears smoother, firmer, and well-hydrated. The rings become less visible, and the neck looks noticeably younger.

When is blanching not enough?

If the rings have formed due to hypertonicity of the platysma or pronounced age-related tissue ptosis, the procedure will be more effective when combined with:

  • botulinum therapy to relax the neck muscle;
  • hardware methods (RF, microneedling, laser rejuvenation) to stimulate collagen;
  • bioremodeling to strengthen the skin framework.

A comprehensive approach has advantages: it provides a more long-lasting and noticeable result. It is important to know that blanching has contraindications. The procedure is not performed in cases of:

  • pregnancy and breastfeeding;
  • inflammatory processes or rashes in the correction area;
  • blood clotting disorders;
  • autoimmune diseases in the acute stage;
  • a tendency to form keloid scars;
  • allergy to the product’s components.

If Venus rings on your neck are bothering you, don’t waste time on home care that won’t deliver the expected results or reduce the wrinkles. Our cosmetologists will choose the ideal method to correct this aesthetic concern. You only need to schedule a consultation — the specialists will examine the wrinkles, identify the cause of the folds, and select a treatment plan that will truly provide lasting results.
