So, the most popular and in-demand substances at the moment are retinol, acids and vitamin C. What is the difference and how exactly to determine what will suit you and what your skin wants.

Acids

  1. Exfoliate.
  2. Illuminate.
  3. Give transparency to the stratum corneum.
  4. Some acids, such as salicylic acid, work with comedones, clean pores from the inside, and fight acne-causing bacteria.
  5. Some, such as glycolic acid, both exfoliate and tighten the dermis and promote collagen production.
  6. Fights post-inflammatory spots.

Several variants of products containing acids:

  • Is clinical - active serum.
  • Biotraide - pure skin exfoliating tonic.
  • La-roche posey - effaclar serum ultra concentrate.
  • ZO skin health by Zein Obagi MD - complexion renewal pads.
  • ZO skin health by Zein Obagi MD - exfoliation accelerator.

Retinol

  1. Tightens the skin and reduces wrinkles (as it promotes the synthesis of hyaluronic acid and collagen in the dermis).
  2. Reduces pigmentation of various origins.
  3. Reduces sebum production.
  4. Fights rashes.
  5. Promotes accelerated cell division.

Retinol has a deeper effect than acids, it has the ability to work by stimulating the dermis itself, thickening it, while acids do not have the same ability, they work more superficially.

So, the main functions of retinol include: rejuvenation (i.e. stimulation and thickening of the skin), minimizing wrinkles and toning and working with the sebaceous glands, if it is an acne treatment. Also works with deep pigmentation in combination with hydroquinone.

Products with retinol:

  • Skinbetter - AlfaRet Overnight cream;
  • AlfaRet clearing serum (combination of retinol with acids);
  • PCA - intensive retinol (brightening, acne, anti-aging, sensitive).
  • ZO skin health by Zein Obagi MD - radical night repair. ZO skin health by Zein Obagi MD - wrinkle + texture repair.
  • ZO skin health by Zein Obagi MD - retinol skin brightener.

Vitamin C

  1. Effectively fights the signs of aging, making the skin smooth, elastic, soft and radiant.
  2. Compared to acids and retinol, it is vitamin C that is the most versatile component in home care, suitable for almost any type of skin, and its long-term use does not provoke any negative consequences.
  3. The use of vitamin C in daily care helps skin cells retain moisture better, and therefore vitamin C also has a moisturizing effect.
  4. Effectively fights various types of inflammation, pigment spots and post-acne spots.
  5. Effectively relieves your skin from the negative effects of exposure to the sun, namely: reduces redness, accelerates the regeneration of damaged cells, while protecting healthy cells from the negative effects.

Several options for vitamin C in home care:

  • ZO skin health by Zein Obagi MD - 10% vitamin C self-activating;
  • Is clinical - super serum, c eye serum, pro-heal serum (vitamin C + retinol);
  • Dr. PaceLeader - toner, serum and cream with vitamin C and hyaluronic acid;
