Molluscum contagiosum is a viral skin disease with an exotic name, which most often affects young people, as well as children of preschool and school age. Small dense nodules of a flesh-colored or pink color with matte or pearl shades, more often appear on the skin of the abdomen, legs and hands.
Less commonly, molluscum contagiosum can be found on the face or back. A typical sign of molluscum contagiosum is an umbilical depression in the center of the nodule, which is clearly visible even without a magnifying glass. It is extremely easy to get infected with molluscum contagiosum. The virus is transmitted from a sick person by direct contact, for example, by shaking hands, stroking, scraping or rubbing the skin of a healthy person. In children, the protective properties of the skin are somewhat weaker than in adults, so molluscum contagiosum can often be detected in children from the same group in kindergarten or from the same class at school.
In this case, the virus gets from a sick child to a healthy one during contact games. A feature of the disease in children is itching, so when the nodules are scratched, the virus spreads to larger areas of the skin. Children often have large clusters of nodules that sometimes merge with each other. In young, sexually active people, the rash can most often be seen on the pubic area and genitals. Partners become infected from each other as a result of skin friction during sexual intercourse.
Cryodestruction – freezing of rashes with liquid nitrogen.
Electrocoagulation - cauterization using a special dermatological device.
Application of special immunosuppressive creams and ointments.
