Ureaplasma parvum is an opportunistic bacterium and is present in small quantities in the microflora of the genitourinary system of every person. Ureaplasmosis occurs in cases where the number of bacteria increases disproportionately, the cause of this can be both external and internal factors.

Causes of the development of ureaplasmosis and ways of its transmission

The most common way of infection is unprotected sexual intercourse. Moreover, ureaplasmosis in men almost does not manifest itself, so the sexual partner may not even know that he is a carrier of the infection. Another way of infection is from mother to child during pregnancy or childbirth. Household transmission of the disease is extremely rare.

When infected sexually, the symptoms of ureaplasmosis appear after 1-2 weeks, but the infection can remain latent in the body for a long time, without manifesting itself. The following factors can provoke an exacerbation:

  • decrease in immunity;
  • pregnancy or abortion;
  • surgical interventions;
  • extragenital pathologies and systemic diseases.

Symptoms of ureaplasmosis in women

Ureplasmosis has almost no specific symptoms, it is quite easy to confuse it with other sexually transmitted infections or inflammatory diseases of the genitourinary system: cystitis, urethritis, endometritis. That is why it is important to undergo laboratory diagnostics and identify the causative agent. Possible symptoms of ureaplasmosis in women include:

  • itching and burning in the genital area;
  • discomfort and pain in the lower abdomen that worsens during intercourse or urination;
  • discharge from the vagina;
  • violation of sexual and sometimes fertility function.

The degree of manifestation of the symptoms of ureaplasmosis depends on the state of the woman's immunity, her age, sexual activity and even nutrition. In the absence of treatment of ureaplasmosis in women, it can transform into a chronic form and in the future provoke the appearance of cervical erosion.

Diagnosis of ureaplasmosis

It is possible to identify and differentiate ureaplasmosis only with the help of the polymerase chain reaction (short name: PCR). This method is accurate, so it is used to diagnose ureaplasmosis in women and men.

Treatment of ureaplasmosis in women

As a rule, urealasmosis is considered not as an independent disease, but as a complication of other inflammatory processes or infections of the genitourinary system, therefore, first of all, the cause that became the trigger for the reproduction of pathogenic microflora is eliminated.

Depending on the form of the disease (acute, subacute or chronic), different combinations of drugs are used, but the treatment of ureaplasmosis is always complex.

The main group of drugs are antibiotics, they can be used in the form of tablets, suppositories, gels, ointments.
