What is an ovarian cyst and what does it look like?

An ovarian cyst is a small neoplasm with liquid content inside, which tends to grow when the amount of secretion increases. There are several types of cysts, and most often there are no symptoms of this disease.

According to the generalized classification, functional and organic cysts are distinguished. Functional - arise as a result of minor violations in the work of the ovaries. Over time, the neoplasm dissolves or is quite easily removed with the help of hormonal drugs. Organic cysts on the ovary do not disappear on their own and, as a rule, require surgical treatment.

Cysts are also classified by type:

  • The ovarian follicular cyst has thin walls and a smooth surface. Sometimes several follicular cysts can form on the ovary at once.
  • The cyst of the corpus luteum is functional. It has thickened yellow walls.
  • Hemorrhagic is formed as a result of hemorrhage inside the formed follicular cyst or cyst of the corpus luteum.
  • An endometrioid cyst is a consequence of the growth of endometrial tissues in the ovaries. The content is dark (chocolate).
  • Mucinous – a benign epithelial neoplasm filled with mucous fluid, which is a secretion of the epithelium (mucin), has an uneven surface.
  • Serous also refers to epithelial, its surface is lined with serous epithelium, filled with a transparent liquid.
  • A dermoid cyst is a neoplasm, the content of which is fat, hair, germs, and teeth.

Ovarian cyst treatment without surgery is carried out within 2-3 months, the therapy scheme is selected by the doctor individually for each patient. In the absence of a positive effect from drug treatment, laparoscopy of the ovarian cyst is performed.
